Kindred Studio FAQ’s

Facial

  • For newbies, we recommend The Kin. It’s our signature 60-minute facial with a 30-minute consultation on the front end to deep dive into your concerns, answer all your questions, and look through your current products.

If you’ve had a facial before but you’d still like to dip a toe in, you can’t go wrong with a Guided Facial; they’re customizable to your needs and cover all the bases. Just pick the amount of time you’d like and we’ll do the rest. Still, have questions? Feel free to reach out at Hello@KindredStudioATL.com

  • Okay, hear us out: the answer is yes and no. The truth is, everyone’s skin is a little different. Some skin types, particularly acneic, can be prone to post-facial detoxing after extractions, which is totally normal when trying to actively expel infection. And of course, there’s always the chance that you may have a sensitivity to an ingredient. BUT WAIT!

The good news is, here at Kindred we use only the highest quality, non-toxic products in order to minimize the possibility of negative reactions or breakouts, and we’ll never do extractions without your explicit consent first. We want every facial to be a pleasant, helpful experience, so we’re happy to tailor your treatment to you and your needs. After all, we’re in this thing together.

  • It’s definitely preferred that you arrive for your appointment make-up free so we have as much time as possible to get through all the facial steps.

However, we understand that life happens and sometimes you’ll have to show up with make-up on. No problem--we’ve got the technology.

  • Generally, we prefer that you give your skin the rest of the day before you put make-up on to avoid reactions or post-facial breakouts.

Your skin is more exposed and freshly exfoliated, so it’s best to give it time to breathe. (Of course, there are always exceptions. I.E.: Oxygen treatments, but not wearing make-up after a facial is almost always the rule.)

  • Your facial day is like a get-out-of-gym-free card! Heavy sweating after a treatment can lead to inflammation and heat rash, while gyms are crawling with staph bacteria--not something you want to take a chance on with newly exfoliated skin.

Grab yourself a green smoothie and take that kickboxing class tomorrow.

  • We cannot tell a lie: extractions are uncomfortable. But they can be done safely, gently, and effectively with the right tools--which we have! Extractions work to expel infection and clean the pores, but ultimately it’s your call if you’d like to receive them.

We’ll never perform extractions without your consent and we’re happy to substitute ultrasonic cleansing if you’d prefer.

  • Sensitive can mean a lot of things--reactive to product, reddens easily, breaks out easily, etc. We try to get to the root of each individual’s sensitivity and tailor the treatment accordingly.

For example, if you are prone to Rosacea, we’ll likely use little to no heat during your facial to avoid exacerbating the redness.

Every case is different, which is why we recommend starting with The Kin for your first facial. Taking the time to really dig into your skin profile makes for a more personalized experience.

 Waxing

  • ¾ of an inch, or long enough to lay flat on the skin.

  • We pride ourselves on a swift and (relatively) comfortable waxing experience. That said, a little discomfort is to be expected. The first time is usually the most uncomfy, but over time with repeated waxing, the hair begins to thin and thus becomes less painful to remove.

As always, your esthi bestie is there to ensure your comfort. Please communicate if you’re feeling unusually high pain or waxing anxiety.

That said, hair length is very important to a pleasant experience:

    • Make sure your hair is at least a quarter inch long—think laying on the skin, not sticking straight out.

    • Anything longer than inch will need to be trimmed. Longer hair creates a more painful waxing experience.

  • Any area that grows hair! (With the exception of eyelashes and cis men’s moustache/beard area.)

Please view our waxing page to see current offerings and pricing.

  • We use Cirepil hard & soft wax.

Brows + Lashes

  • Henna is a naturally derived tint that does not use a developer. It stains the skin and lasts longer vs the standard semi-permanent color. Henna is best suited for those looking for a bold, dramatic look, while the semi-permanent tint is best suited for more natural looks.

  • Yes and No. Depending on the person’s hair and skin type, the tint can last 2-6 weeks. Dry skin types tend to see their tint last longer than oily skin types. Active products like retinol, AHAs & BHAs can lessen the appearance of the tint as well. However, Henna does generally last longer than semi-permanent hair color across the board.

  • We do not recommend henna for lashes, and cannot provide that service.

  • We don’t know the exact reason, but it is our experience that those pregnant or nursing’s lashes do not hold the lift after 24 hrs. We would hate to not meet your expectations and want to give you all the expert advice before making the decision to book the service.

  • Lifts will last anywhere from 6-10 weeks, depending on your lash growth/shed cycle and your use of make-up & skincare products on your lashes.

  • Yes! It’s very important that you do NOT get your lashes WET for 24 hrs. Doing so will deactivate the solution and cause the lashes to return to their natural state. (Luckily, we include take home instructions with every service to make sure your lashes stay looking their best!)
